Have fun creating your very own 30cm drum lamp shade as a ceiling pendant or a table lamp. Bring fabric to complement your interior scheme or we have a huge selection of fabric you can choose from.

You will only need a 50cm drop but the full width of the fabric. Please choose a flat surface fabric that doesn’t fray for your first project!
Just like cycling, once you have learnt how to make a lampshade, you will never forget!

Easy step-by-step instructions are available and you will also be able to purchase lampshade packs so you can make more at home!

Tea and delicious home baked cake will be provided of course.

We may need to contact you ahead of the workshop for the purposes of instructions, reminder of booking and parking etc. Please see the Privacy notice on the Hospice of St Francis website regarding how we protect your data

"Thank you again for guiding us through the workshop on Saturday. We had a brilliant time" Lisa (workshop attendee)

Frequently Asked Questions:

Where: Returned to Glory. Unit 5 Northbridge Rd, Berkhamsted HP4 1EH

Parking: You can park on Northbridge Road but we also have parking at the back of Returned to Glory.

What size lampshade will I be making: You will make the most beautiful 30cm diameter drum lampshade. This will fit most table lamp bases.

Can I make a ceiling lamp instead?: Of course, the technique is the same but you will need to let your tutor know as the fabric will need positioning in a different way.

What will I need to bring: This is the perfect opportunity for you to coordinate your lamp shade to your home. So please bring a drop of fabric at least 50cm deep and the full width of the fabric. If you are not working on a particular colour scheme and just want to learn to make a shade, then we have plenty of fabrics in store for you to choose from, please drop in earlier so you can choose at your leisure. Prices start from £5.00

What type of fabric can I use: Anything that is flat to the touch. Ideally not too thick either. Any embroidery will give poor results as it won’t adhere to the template completely.
Be kind to yourself and don’t choose something that frays too much. That will be for when you have fine-tuned your skills.

What is provided in the workshop: You will be given a 30cm drum template to work with. Trust us, you will be amazed by the results!

Will I be able to make more shades at home: we are stocking 30cm drum templates in store so you can keep making more at home. We also have a pretty good selection of ready-made lampshades if you prefer a quick fix.

Where do the proceeds of this workshop go: Please be reassured that all profits go to support the incredible work that our colleagues do at the Hospice of St Francis!
